Armenia visa-free entry for Chinese citizens — the 90-day rule
Since January 2020, Chinese ordinary passport holders can enter Armenia visa-free for up to 90 days within any 180-day period — no application, no embassy visit. This guide explains exactly what the agreement covers, what it doesn't, and how to plan a longer stay for business or relocation. What is Armenia's visa-free agreement with China?
Armenia and China signed a mutual visa waiver agreement on May 26, 2019, during a visit by China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi. It took effect on January 19, 2020. Under the agreement, holders of an ordinary passport from either country can enter, exit, or transit through the other visa-free, provided their cumulative stay does not exceed 90 days within any 180-day period, counted from the date of first arrival.

The 90-day count is cumulative and rolling — it is not reset by leaving and re-entering Armenia. If you spend 40 days in Armenia, leave, and return two months later, the days already used still count toward your 90-day allowance within that same 180-day window.

What visa-free entry covers — and what it doesn't
The visa-free window is genuinely useful for a specific set of purposes — but it is not a substitute for a work visa or residence permit if your plans go beyond a visit.
Covered by the 90-day visa-free window
- Tourism and personal travel — sightseeing, visiting family or friends, general travel around Armenia
- Business meetings and exploration — meeting partners, viewing properties, scouting the market before committing
- Company incorporation groundwork — registering an LLC does not itself require a visa or work permit
- Transit — passing through Armenia en route to another destination
Not covered — requires a visa or permit in advance
- Paid employment — working for an Armenian or foreign employer requires proper work authorisation
- Study — enrolling in an educational institution requires a student visa or permit
- Long-term residence — "living" in Armenia beyond the 90-day cap requires a temporary residence permit
- Journalism — news coverage activities are explicitly excluded under the agreement's terms
